Say good night, Gracie - Jason Lindquist
Idle ramblings of an idle mind
Say good night, Gracie
Tonelli's Restaurant, a fixture on Waukegan and Shermer Roads (and which has employed two of my sisters over the years) is closing on Sunday after 51 years. The current generation of kids isn't interested in taking over, profit margins are slim, and value of the real estate it sits on is too high. They're going to move the Walgreens from Cherry and Meadow into a new building that will replace the restaurant, the liquor store and Chinese place next door, and I also believe the house just west on Shermer where Bryce's family's real estate office used to be, back when it was The Real Estate Shoppe. (It's now Re/Max North up on Dundee. I still have the ancient magnets on my fridge.)

I can't even count the number of birthdays and season completions celebrated there.

Sad to see Tonelli's go

Yes, change does happen, but I am sad to see Tonelli's Restaurant go. Many memories there with my family. At the time, we didn't realize what a tradition it had come to be for us, but now that it is closing the memories all come back. Best wishes to customers and employees, and thanks for the Tonelli family for continuing the tradition (and holding out with the difficult business of operating a restaurant) for as long as they did.
