The dog's on duty

Thanks to Joe Gross, I have a watchdog script running out of cron to watch my DSL modem. Every so often, maybe two or three times a month, my outbound DSL traffic just stops. Inbound actually works, I discovered today, but it takes two to tango. Everything goes back to normal if I power-cycle the modem. Easy enough if I wake up to a loss of connectivity. Not so much if I'm at work. And it sucks balls if I'm out of town.

Today's other lesson: UPSes don't pass X10 signals. I had to move my CM-11 to the back of my APC UPS to make it able to switch the DSL modem. (My home server, DSL modem, and VoIP bridge all hang on the UPS.)
