If you think it's better now

...think again.

I haven't read riverbend in a long while. She occasionally goes quiet, partly due to gaps in connectivity or power, or for safety reasons, or because it's just too damned depressing to write.

If you're still one of those clowns that think our administration has done the right thing, or if you think it can't really be as bad as the loudest war opponents say it is, then go read that.

And imagine, for a moment, that the events that author describes were happening in your neighborhood instead. Maybe that's urban California, or suburban Illinois, or rural BFE. But put yourself and your familiar surroundings into this story for a moment, and consider how you'd feel if you found your world had deteriorated into that.

I don't know if I'd have survived as long as she has, if this were my neighborhood. I think that long ago, it would've pissed me off to the point I would've headed out to shoot people that were in sore need of being killed. And in an environemnt like that, the survival odds of such an expedition are severely slim.

Wow. Do we ever fucking owe those people. And now we're in a position where we won't be able to repay them, possibly for decades. That bill's going to come with an unbelievable load of interest, when it comes due someday...
