The staff at Daktronics disagrees. They're now selling basketball scoreboards whose LED digits change color based on the game situation. The leading team's score appears in green, the trailing in red. Tie scores are yellow. A stopped clock is red, a running clock is green, with under a minute to go it turns yellow. I'll be the first to admit, there's a benefit to subtle elements of presentation that aid quick, instinctive comprehension. Clearly, it's now become cheap enough to implement it that someone's done it.
Though overkill it is, that doesn't change the fact that I'm buying a set for the new gym if I ever win the lottery. And the transparent shot clocks. >:-)
