In September 1993, AOL opened up Usenet newsfroups to its members, and things have never been the same. The irrepairable damage having been done, they are now closing that direct access. Users will still have alternate routes to newsgroups, by paying other providers for it and using NNTP clients. But you've got to want it to do that.
