"Very early on someone asked, 'Does anybody here think the boys did it?' Everyone said no," said Juror No. 6
The jury felt that Tuite's defense, that the victim's brother and two friends were actually the perpetrators, was unsupported by the physical evidence and their confessions were coerced by Escondido police. This is old news, but it's reassuring to see that a jury agrees, not merely the state Attorney General's office.
I hope this verdict is accurate. I hope this has finally been put to rest. If it's not, I'm less worried about Michael Crowe and his friends--if they did it, they've been living with it for seven years, and it doesn't sound like it's been easy for any of them. I'd be more concerned about jailing Tuite as an innocent man. But right now, I think while that's possible, it's rather unlikely.
