Sweet turns sour

Archibald Candy announced that they're selling the Fannie May and Fannie Farmer retail stores and brand names, and closing the candy factory in Chicago's west Loop. This is absolutely my favorite chocolate in the world. It will not be the same afterwards. I'll be surprised if the retail stores survive more than two or three years.

Brach's recently finished closing their plant on the West Side, its European parent having moved all production to Mexico. Dayton-Hudson moved production of the Marshall Field's Frango Mint line to Pennsylvania (I assume consolidating it with another operation) some time ago.
